The upcoming edition of the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragón de MotoGP will take place from 23 to 25 September 2016. During this next exciting round of the FIM World Championship Grand Prix, the MotorLand circuit will be implementing KiSS (‘keep it shiny and sustainable’) for the third year running.
The main aim of this programme is to raise awareness among all the fans of motorcycling worldwide of the need for sustainable sport and reduce the environmental impact of the races through management of waste generated by the public, the paddock and the parking areas. The circuit will also launch a contest on Twitter with the hashtag #KiSSMotorLand. The most outstanding message highlighting the need for sustainability and respect for the environment will receive a merchandising item signed by the initiative’s standard-bearer Marc Márquez.
The KiSS programme, which is part of the sustainability policy of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), will be implemented at the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragón MotoGP thanks to the efforts of the FIM with the support of Dorna, IRTA (International Road-Racing Teams’ Association) and the Government of Aragón and of programme sponsors Urbaser, Diario de Teruel and Coca Cola. The main thrust of the programme, which has been in preparation for several months now, will be the distribution of a KiSS kit in the form of a small recyclable cotton bag containing an explanatory leaflet, a map with instructions and three rubbish bags in different colours for organic products, paper and plastic. Altogether, 5’000 kits will be distributed at the entrances of the two main Pelouse areas, where the largest number of fans is expected to gather. Thanks to Urbaser, there will be separate rubbish and paper containers for different types of waste in all the stands of MotorLand to enable the fans to dispose of their waste for subsequent recycling.
The importance of the initiative KiSSMotorLand is reflected in the words of FIM CEO Ignacio Verneda: «Last year, during the Women and Sustainability Conferences, we signed the Declaration of Jerez which reflects our commitment to sustainable sport. In this document, we highlighted the right of every one to enjoy safe, inclusive and clean sport that preserves the rights, dignity and respect of individuals. The KiSS programme is part of this effort and represents an ongoing programme for the FIM as it has now been organised in 10 different cities in North America and Europe. This year the MotorLand Circuit will be hosting the programme again with the support of our Ride Green Ambassador Marc Márquez as spokesperson and in cooperation with DORNA, IRTA, the Government of Aragón and the companies that have aligned themselves with our sustainability policy».
KiSSMotorLand will have an outstanding standard-bearer in Marc Márquez, who will be demonstrating his commitment to the initiative by wearing its logo on his motorcycle. KiSSMotorLand will also be encouraging the fans to use sustainable transport during the Grand Premio. The motoGP fans will again benefit from a bus service linking the circuit with Alcañiz which was used by over 15’000 people last year. This service, provided by the company Hife, will be free of charge. As part of this drive to encourage and promote sustainable transport, MotorLand will also provide specific parking areas for bicycles, reserved for fans who opt to use pedal power to make their way to the Gran Premio Movistar de Aragón.
